Sharing Stories of Courage & Hope with Alzheimer BC

We worked with Alzheimer BC on their latest fundraising campaign to help them create short videos showcasing stories of courage and hope and the relationships between those living with dementia and their caregivers.

Working with real people affected by dementia and their caregivers on set was a very special opportunity for our team and one we will never forget. To ensure that everyone felt supported, we took extra care in providing a clean set, simple direction, and an efficient shooting style.

Telling the stories for this project was unique because each video is about a moment, and that moment had to be distinct, memorable and last as long as possible. To do this, we produced a slow-motion effect, creating anticipation for the viewer, prolonging the moment and holding the viewer’s attention longer than average. By doing this, we captured the story’s true essence while ensuring the video was informative and precise. It took a lot of editing and the critical eye of our incredible video producer, JL, and we are thrilled with the result and how well the moment is captured and told in each video.

The finished package used six final videos, all eight seconds or under. The result was moving portraitures, combining video and still shoots to help emulate the stories and showcase the beautiful relationships between the subject and their caregivers.

We love working with Alzheimer BC and look forward to future projects and helping to tell the stories that matter. To learn more about how you can support those affected by dementia and their caregivers, visit https://alzheimer.ca/bc/en.

Video production with the Alzheimer Society of British Columbia

One of the things we hear a lot from the people we work with is that we are so easygoing on set. That’s a really nice thing to hear! We know that being in front of the camera can be nerve-wracking. In fact, that’s why our entire production team does everything in their power to put people at ease!

Our crew had the opportunity to work with The Alzheimer Society of British Columbia on their holiday campaign.

We don’t know how other production companies are to work with, but it seems like often we are not what’s expected by people who have been on other sets. Being unexpected is just fine with us.

So, why do we manage to put people at ease even while getting their close-ups? We would love to think it’s our good looks, sparkling personalities, or even how up-to-date our fashion senses are. Realistically though, while some of those may be true, we feel it all comes down to preparation.

We often say that by the time we are on set, most of our job is done. By that point, we are collecting data and making sure our subjects look and sound great, while being relaxed enough to be themselves. And we’re able to do this because that’s all we have to do!

The preparations for our shoots can run from several hours to several days. Sometimes it’s a sketch on a napkin, and sometimes it takes up our entire 14-foot-wide chalkboard. But no matter how big or small the pre-production is by the time we are ready to shoot there are no distractions, no changes, no equipment questions.

And that is how it’s done here at McMedia!
